When the Student Is Ready...

Proverbs 2:2-3

2 turning your ear to wisdom
and applying your heart to understanding—
3 indeed, if you call out for insight
and cry aloud for understanding,

Have you ever heard the saying "when the student is ready, the teacher will appear"? It's actually a Buddhist proverb but one that holds true. King Solomon was considered the wisest and wealthiest man of Old Testament times. When the kingship was turned over to him by his father David, instead of seeking wealth, he sought God for wisdom. Because he didn't ask God for anything else, he blessed him greatly. Turning your ear to wisdom and applying signifies that one is ready to listen and obey. There are some things we just have to be willing to ask for. King Solomon suggests that we ought to ask for insight and understanding. How else will we know what to do?

There comes a point in our lives where we must know that once we ask for insight and understanding, we must be ready for the results. It may not be what we want to hear but it will be what we need to hear to move to the next level.

May our hearts be at a place of readiness so we can gain wisdom and understanding.
