Run With the Vision

Philippians 4:13

13I can do everything through him who gives me strength.

It is a very popular and well spoken scripture which is now used as a cliche. The apostle Paul was telling the church in Philippi how he was able to get through both good circumstances and not so good circumstances. He said Christ provides the strength. God has been speaking to me on this scripture with yet another revelation. Though the scripture is quoted often, many do not fully believe that Christ gives them the strength to do anything.

For example, having an idea. Many do not believe they have the strength in Jesus to carry out an idea. So instead of carrying it out, they let it die or fall by the waste side of life and settle for whatever is handed to them. Did you know that by doing so you are not displaying that you are operating in the strength Christ has given you? Here's another way to view it.

When you have an idea it is a vision from God. When God gives you a vision He expects you to use it. So if God the Father provides the vision and God the Son provides the strength, then God the Holy Spirit provides the guidance on how to move forward with it. Each member of the Holy Trinity has a stake in you. So glorifying each member of the Holy Trinity by running with a vision shows others who God is and that if you can do it with them backing you, so can someone else with what the Trinity has provided them. Sure you may have bumps in the road, people may even erroneously think that you are moving in the wrong direction because you're not doing what everyone else is doing. God knows what He gave you and why He gave it to you. Don't worry about anyone else when the Holy Trinity has your back.

Run with the vision because Christ gives you strength.

Surpassing Enemies

Habakkuk 3:19

19The Sovereign Lord is my strength; he makes my feet like the feet of a deer, he enables me to go on the heights.

Habakkuk the prophet made a petition or request to God. In his prayer which was much like a psalm, he recounted God's wonderful deeds including his ability to save His people many times from the wrath of enemies. Each time the enemies of God's people thought they were ahead and were going to win, God showed up in a mighty way. Habakkuk also talked of rejoicing in the Lord no matter the situation, even while the enemies attempt to attack, even when it does not look like there is hope. The Lord provides strength. And Habakkuk describes that strength to that of the feet of a deer.

According to the Wikipedia encyclopedia, deer can range in weight between 20-1,000lbs. Their bodies are compact and they have long, powerful legs. They are excellent jumpers in terrain and swimmers. Deer live in woods, large forest and mountains. Their powerful legs and feet allow them to move to great heights. As enemies approach, the Lord gives us strength to move like a deer to surpass enemies. It may not look like it right now but rejoice anyhow. Because surely God will deliver you.

Remember Me

Luke 23:42

42Then he said, "Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom."

There were three men nailed to crosses on Calvary. Crucifixion was considered the most horrible death for the most horrible criminals. Our Lord hung in between two thieves. The words uttered by one thief were full of unbelief and taunting hurled at Jesus. But the other, reminded the first thief that they were getting what they deserved but that Jesus was innocent. Usually, the guilty don't admit their guilt. But that indeed was the first difference of the one thief. He recognized that he was wrong in his actions that caused him to be where he was. And once he did, he asked Jesus to remember him. And Jesus said in verse 43 "I tell you the truth, today you will be with me in paradise."

The thief's humility is exactly what it takes for us to come to Jesus. There needs to be enough humility to say you have been wrong, made wrong choices, that you don't have all the answers. And when you do, no matter what you have done, even the most horrible of crimes, you can say to Jesus, "remember me."  And Jesus, our Lord and Savior, King of kings and Lord of Lords will remember you and take you in.

It Must Go Forth

Isaiah 66:9

9Do I bring to the moment of birth and not give delivery? says the Lord. "Do I close up the womb when I bring to delivery?" says your God.

The prophet Isaiah spoke by the Lord's command on the judgement surrounding the enemies who would not properly honor God but also talked of hope for Jerusalem. The Lord often made analogies to Israel as a woman or a woman's journey. Here God uses the analogy of a woman giving birth. There is no way that God will bring a baby to the birth canal and not open the canal for the baby to come through. There is no way that God will have a baby develop for nine months and it not be birthed. The birthing process must go forth. It must be completed. The birthing process isn't just for literally having a baby. God gives conception of ideas, ministries, etc through those He chooses. And there is a process of development. That development of the idea, etc must come to its full term before God can release it through a person. And He will not get you all the way through the process just for it not to pass through the canal. It must go forth. The pain is temporary. Once whatever it is God wants to come through has come, there will be joy and celebration. Do not fret, it must go forth.

Grateful

Good Morning Everyone,


I want to take this time to say thank you publicly to each and every person who reached out to me with their own testimonies of losing a parent and/or support from those who gave an encouraging word. What some of you may or may not know is my own near death experience was in the same time frame just three years after my step-dad's passing. I am grateful for all of you whom God has placed before me. And as Get Your JOY In The Morning approaches it's fourth year anniversary one week from today, I thank God for vision and what is to come. I want to publicly thank the James Allen Library for including Get Your JOY In The Morning as an add on in its daily and weekly meditation emails, Church Beat Radio for promoting the book and lending support. Thank you to Stubbs of The Leap of Faith Show and Network for her continued support of the book and recorded messages for radio as well as V of the Artist to Artist Show on Qliveone.com. I want to thank Mr. Willie Jolley for allowing me to borrow a page from his own story of encounter with Stephen Covey and lending support and to Sharman J. Monroe for her continued support and push. I am grateful to each person who passes on the messages to everyone they know as you are to always share the good news of the gospel of Christ. I am truly grateful and thank God for what He has done, what He is doing and will continue to do.

Spiritual Fog

Matthew 9:4

4Knowing their thoughts, Jesus said, "Why do you entertain evil thoughts in your hearts?

Jesus had gone into Capernaum where some men had brought a friend who was a paralytic on a mat. Jesus immediately looked at the man and told him his sins were forgiven. There were teachers of the law present and they believed Jesus to be blaspheming. In their minds, no one had the ability to forgive sins but God. Unfortunately, they refused to see that they were in the company of the Son of God. Jesus, who was spirit and existed with God when the world was created, had every right to forgive sins. But again, the teachers of the law had no idea who they were in the company of. Jesus continued to show the power He had been entrusted with by our heavenly Father. How so? He revealed that he knew their thoughts. Jesus clearly displayed the power and authority He possessed by forgiving sins, revealing thoughts and then telling the paralytic to walk and he did. Now if someone pronounced what you were thinking without you opening your mouth should that not be enough? But then to see a man get up and walk who just minutes before was bedridden is indeed a miracle. To deny that one witnessed a miracle is denying God and who He is.

Have you ever denied God's power and authority? Has the Lord ever showed you a miracle yet as the teachers of the law you attempted to explain away, reason away and flat out question it? What you may not realize is that everyone at one point in time has questioned God's ability whether it was through frank unbelief or even doubt because you could not see your way clear of a situation. Many of us have not been that far off from those teachers of the law or may even be still there. You can be in the presence of the Holy One yet still suffer from unbelief due to spiritual fog. Whatever fog you may be in, may be it made clear to you by the power and authority of Jesus Christ

Sifted

Matthew 4:25

25Large crowds from Galilee, the Decapolis, Jerusalem, Judea and the region across the Jordan followed him.

Jesus had just started His public ministry in Galilee where He also picked the first disciples. As Jesus began healing the sick many followed Him. But as the NIV Study Bible states, not all following Him were true disciples. It says some were just curious and as events occurred, this was revealed. This is still true. Everyone who says they are followers of Christ may be revealed as curious onlookers when a situation takes places that requires them to put their faith where their mouth is. The word faith is over used just like many other words in the English language. But to really believe and follow Jesus may mean having a difficult trial or facing an unpleasant experience just so He can bring you out and show that He is the Lord of lords and King of kings. Will you be angry with Jesus then? Will you still follow Him then or will you be sifted?

And what about those who follow you? Do you know that some may be curious onlookers? God will reveal those who may claim to be true by using certain events. Pray for them as Jesus did and keep moving. Whatever God has assigned you to must be completed as not everyone has the same assignment. You do not have time to be distracted by curious onlookers, they will be sifted out in due time. Jesus didn't worry about them. He didn't even worry about the ones who tried countless times to harm Him.

In His Own Time

Psalm 75:2-3

2You say, "I choose the appointed time; it is I who judge uprightly. 3When the earth and the people quake, it is I who hold its pillars firm."

God is one who does everything in His own time. A thousand years to us is like a day to Him. As the NIV Study Bible states, "God does not fail to call the arrogant to account." It may "appear" that evil doing is advancing and it may "appear" that injustice has prevailed. Oh but God! God always brings things back around for His glory to be shown. The quake in this Psalm was about the crumbling that often takes place when evil doers advance but God is the one who still holds things together. Things fall apart just enough for the wrong doing to be exposed and disposed of. When? When God sees fit. When the arrogant believe they are "home free" God shows up. He gives time to repent and make a mends because He is slow to anger. It is not for you and I to pursue the justice, God will do it all on His own and in His own time.

One Week

Luke 21:37

37Each day Jesus was teaching at the temple, and each evening he went out to spend the night on the hill called the Mount of Olives,

It was the last week of Jesus' earthly ministry. He did not spend it living it up nor did He spend it in complete solitude. In His last week of life, Jesus was still teaching at the temple. He was still giving of himself though He knew He was about to suffer a horrible death. If you knew you had one week left, what would you be doing? Would it be the selfless type of acts that Jesus displayed? Or would it be "all about you?" At night Jesus spent His time on the hill that looked over the city taking in the earthly view in His current state. Jesus accomplished a great deal within that one week. He came in on the donkey which was His triumphant ride that was also prophesied. He taught in the temple, had the last supper or passover meal with the disciples to prepare them for His departure and then that Friday was crucified for the remission of our sins. All week long  in His last week of earthly life, Jesus displayed love and concern for others. Never doubt the amount of love Jesus has for you. He spent His entire earthly life preparing for that one week.

He Has NO Hold On You

John 14:30

30I will not speak with you much longer, for the prince of the world is coming. He has no hold on me,


Jesus told the disciples many times that He would not be with them for long, though they didn't understand. At times it may have even sounded like Jesus played charades because he did not always use the same name for Satan each time but the prince of the world is Satan. Jesus was bold in his statement that the prince has no hold on him. For who can hold the Son of God? Who can hold the one who was Spirit along next to God creating the earth? Did you know that if you are in Christ, the prince of the world has no hold on you? He only has hold on those who dare not to be connected to Christ and find all their value in the world because it then that they are weak and the prince takes over. But those in Christ have the power and ability to defeat the prince with one word. That word is Jesus. When in Christ, crying out the name of Jesus and saying help me is the code red for rescue. When in Christ and God's word and daily communication with Him, you stomp on the head of the prince of the world. When in Christ, you show the prince he has NO hold on you. Even if you stumble, because you know the one who can redeem you and repent, the prince still has no hold. You slip right through his fingers.

Assassinate from the Inside

Esther 2:21

21During the time Mordecai was sitting at the king's gate, Bigthana and Teresh, two of the king's officers, who guarded the doorway, became angry and conspired to assassinate King Xerxes.

The city gate and the king's gate are two different areas. The city gate is meant for protecting everyone who belongs in the city but the king's gate is meant to protect the leadership and those in the inner circle that live in the palace. Gate's have guards or gatekeepers. Gate keepers are those who monitor the coming and goings of visitors, protect the king and also keep out those who do not belong in the inner circle/palace. Bigthana and Teresh were gatekeepers. What happens when those who are to guard and be the gatekeepers are the ones who want to assassinate or harm the leadership? Mordecai was the cousin of Queen Esther and raised her. He sat near the gate as one who was a scribe. He was a minister of the court, one who documented the accounts set forth by the king and anyone whom the king appointed. Mordecai overheard the plot. Scripture says that Bigthana and Teresh became angry. One does not know why they became angry exactly. But anger is usually the first emotion displayed but not the primary emotion. There's always a reason for the anger. Be it jealousy, envy, pain, greed, etc. At any case, Those who were meant to have the king's best interest planned to harm him. For Mordecai, that meant harming his family. His relation to the king was not widely known. He was considered as just another scribe. With his connection to the inner circle, he was able to alert leadership of the assassination plot. Mordecai could've stayed quiet but it was in the interest of love, care and respect that he could not keep quiet. The inner circle is supposed to be a place of comfort. But if those who are to look out for the inner circle are not truly thinking about anyone else then there is no comfort, no trust. Leadership is important because if the enemy can take out the leadership he then has access to all those the leader looks after. As leaders, who is looking after you? Who is in your inner circle? Who are your gate keepers? Are the gate keepers there in love and devotion or are they like Bigthana and Teresh, out to assassinate from the inside?

You Can't Take It With You

Ecclesiastes 5:15

15Naked a man comes from his mother's womb, and as he comes, so he departs. He takes nothing from his labor that he can carry in his hand.

The richest and wisest man known in the Old Testament was King Solomon. King Solomon had wealth beyond measure and wisdom from God that could not compare. As one so wealthy and wise, he said you can't take anything with you when you die. He talks of how more wealth brings more anxiety. Not sure if that anxiety is from fearing loss or those around are not true. But in any case, King Solomon talks of how it is good to find some satisfaction in what one obtains. That one ought to be happy in their work from which their wealth has been obtained.  It is a gift from God. But what happens when one no longer finds satisfaction in what they do? No matter what, you can't take it with you. King Solomon's point is that only in God can one be satisfied even with their wealth. Only in God can one take pleasure. What is it to obtain all the wealth in the world yet still be unhappy and sad? You only get one life. No matter what you obtain, you can't take it with you. So better to be happy and love doing what you are doing so that when you do spend what you have obtained and you do take your last breath, you are doing so with a smile.

Loving Much

Luke 7:47

47"Therefore, I tell you, her many sins have been forgiven-for she loved much. But he who has been forgiven little loves little."

Jesus praised the woman who came into the house and kissed his feet, worshiped Him and cried tears of gratefulness. She showed Jesus how much she loved Him. Yet the man whose house Jesus was a guest in did not even give Him a drink of water nor did he offer Jesus any sign  of love. It was as if Jesus needed to be grateful that He was invited, yet He is the Savior. When you love someone truly and deeply, it will show. It will show in how you treat them. So Jesus compared the acts of the woman to those of the host. As the NIV Bible states, "the woman's love was evidence of her forgiveness but not the basis for it. She was saved by faith." She believed in Jesus and her belief caused her to love Him deeply. And Jesus did tell her that her sins were forgiven. We make mistakes in life and make wrong choices whether it was because we did not have all the information, refused to see the information or were just out right disobedient. In any case, Jesus still loves us. His love was already proven when He allowed the nails to pierce His body. The bigger the mistake the more we are willing to show Jesus love once we have confessed it because it's only through love that we could ever be forgiven and it is only by faith that we could ever confess our wrong. Knowing that any wrong, no matter how big, has been forgiven ought to cause one to love much like the woman Jesus praised.

He Will Answer You Too

Psalm 99:6

6Moses and Aaron were among his priests, Samuel was among those who called on his name; they called on the Lord and he answered him.

Moses, Aaron and Samuel were awesome in the eyes of God but so are you. Many people do not understand that Jesus came to reconcile us back to God our Father. Jesus came so that we could have our own direct relationship with God. Yes, Jesus died for the remission of our sins and rose again so that those who believe Him would not suffer a final death but would have everlasting life. So why then do so many think they can't call out to God on their own? Whether it is privately or publicly in prayer, Jesus came so we could have our own relationship with God. God loves you! He loves you because you are His creation. We were created in His image as it is stated in Genesis. So just as we look like our earthly parents, God looks at us and sees a bunch of "mini me's" so of course He loves us. God wanted so badly to have a relationship with each and every person directly that He gave up His only begotten Son so each of us could talk with Him. That's deep! So you don't have to wait on pastoral staff, the clergy, the deacons, etc to call out on the name of the Lord. Just open your mouth. He hears you and if you stand still enough, He will answer you too.

The Good, The Bad and The Ugly

Proverbs 11:3

3The integrity of the upright guides them, but the unfaithful are destroyed by their duplicity.

Yet again is there not a typical message. I believe for many of you I have told you before that I started watching Blue Bloods because of an actor friend of mine who appeared on it.  The latest episode was Inside Jobs but it's message was more about values and choices and how duplicity can get one in trouble. In the latest episode: Brigitte Moynahan's character was asked, by someone she deeply admired and looked up to, to sit on the Board of two major charities before rats infested the charity dinner. On the other side of town, her brother, Donnie's character, was investigating a man who had been thrown out of the car with a dead rat in his pocket. It turned out that both incidents were related and not so upstanding citizens referred to someone who pays them as "Goddess". When at that family dinner table, the case came up and so did the charity dinner. When Donnie's character had a chance to talk to Brigitte's character, he mentioned the case as he even picked up they may be related and mentioned the name "Goddess". Brigitte heard the name and pretended not to know it. But she knew her friend had been referred to as "Goddess" and how she earned the nickname. Donnie continued to press her and she was nervous about approaching her friend who continued to press her to be on the board. Having Brigitte on the board would give her the contacts/network she needed but also have the DA's office in her back pocket while the unsavory things she did went unnoticed. Eventually Donnie's character pressed Brigitte's character to the point that she set up a meeting so the guy who claimed to be the enforcer for hire by "Goddess" could give a positive id. And Guess what? The enforcer gave the positive id and even "Goddess" recognized the man when he approached her. When Donnie's character put the handcuffs on her, the response was, "Do you know who I am? Do you know what I have done for this city and the people I've helped?" Brigitte called her on her "charity". As it's her job to take down those who are in criminal activity. Brigitte knew if she didn't help her brother, her integrity would be on the line.  It hurt her to do it because she looked up to "Goddess". But "Goddess" used the, "I'll have my way " to the point that the bad began to outweigh the good she was doing.

What's the point? The point is, duplicity is a sharp fence to walk and can cause destruction as King Solomon pointed out. Yes, everyone makes mistakes. But the point of making mistakes is to learn the lesson that comes from them so one can move forward and be better and do better. But if one never learns, the mistakes are repeated time and time again til they unravel the person and things become ugly.

Assignment for the week: Watch Blue Bloods episode online called Inside Jobs and also rent/download Devil's Advocate with Al Pacino. Write down what you learn from each. But this is the assignment for the week as this is the only daily message you will receive for the week.

Is It Clear Yet?

John 16:31

31"You believe at last!"  Jesus answered.

Jesus was preparing the disciples for His departure. He told them they wouldn't see Him for a little while then they would see Him. It's the "now you see me now you don't" scenario between the time of the crucifixion and the resurrection. The disciples didn't understand and began to ask each other questions. When Jesus knew their thoughts without them asking Him and began to clarify for them, they understood. What seemed like perplexing parables to them became clear. They confessed that He could only be from God. And it was at that point that Jesus knew they finally believed. When you believe and Jesus begins to speak, you will understand. No more will it sound like the  teacher on the Charlie Brown cartoon. His voice will be clear. And when you finally know that you can hear Jesus clearly, it's like a room that's been totally dark and suddenly the light bulb comes on and illuminates the room. It's bright and gives the room a new look. Jesus speaks but because of sin and disbelief, ears cannot always hear. And just because you believe in general doesn't mean that's in ALL things Jesus says through the Holy Spirit. There are different levels of belief. What has Jesus told you? Has the light bulb of belief finally come on for you? Is it clear yet?

Believing It Is Possible

Acts 14:8

8In Lystra there sat a man crippled in his feet, who was lame from birth and had never walked.

The crippled man had never known what it was for his feet to be flat on the floor and to take steps. He never knew the sensation of walking yet the Word says that he listened to Paul speak. The Word says that Paul looked directly at him and saw that he had faith to be healed. There was absolutely NO EVIDENCE for the crippled man that he could walk. Yet deep down he believed it to be possible. And because he believed, it was made so. That's the definition of faith! There's no evidence but to believe in your heart of hearts that God can do it though you can't see it is faith. How many really have that kind of faith? Were you ever told that you would never walk again? Were you ever told that you wouldn't live? Were you ever Were you ever told that you would have no use of your arms again? Were you ever told that you would never have something, be something or the like? Where are you now? What has God done? What you receive, what you are able to do will be according to the faith you have that Jesus can do it. Believe it is possible.

Stretch

Luke 6:10

10He looked around at them all, and then said to the man, "Stretch out your hand." He did so and his hand was completely restored.

It was the Sabbath and the Pharisees wanted to know if Jesus would heal anyone. The Sabbath is a day of rest and to recognize the rest the Lord took even in His own work to create the world and everything in it. The Jews were to adhere to the commandment to keep the Sabbath holy and to do no work. We as followers of Christ are to do the same but often do not. The Pharisees were looking for an excuse to accuse Jesus of not following the law. Jesus already knew and therefore decided to heal a man anyway.  What is important to note is that Jesus gave the man specific instructions. He told him to "stretch." Why is stretching important? The man had to do something in order to receive his healing. The man had to make a conscious effort to take action in order to receive the result Jesus wanted to give him. Merriam-Webster's Dictionary defines 2stretch as 1) an act of extending or drawing out beyond ordinary or normal limits 2) a continuous extent in length, area or time 3) the extent to which something may be stretched 4) either of the straight sides of a racecourse.  Drawing out beyond ordinary limits is what Jesus used to push the man to what he desired which is healing. If you want to be healed, you still have to do something. What is it that you want? More importantly, what is it that Jesus wants to give you? The only way you can receive it is if you stretch toward Jesus.

Source of Strength

Psalm 29:11

11The Lord gives strength to his people; the Lord blesses his people with peace.

How many times have you been through blows by life? How many times have you had "the wind knocked out of you"? While you were down, did you call on the Lord?  No one outside of the Lord can give you the strength to get back up, not even you. There will be blows so heavy that by all accounts, you shouldn't get back up and the world wouldn't expect you to do so. AHHHH BUT GOD!! When the Lord is the source of your strength, you will rise again. Proverbs 24:16 says though a righteous man falls seven times, he rises again. The only way to be righteous is to take on the righteousness of the Lord. And in doing so, you can rise again. You got up so give the Lord total praise! The song in my spirit is Richard Smallwood's Total Praise.

"You are the source of my strength."
"You are the strength of my life."
"I lift my hands in total praise to you."

I don't care where you are reading this but when you finish, just lift your hands in total praise to the Lord and tell Him thank you because obviously, He is the source of your strength. Whatever blow you were dealt, you got up!! GLORY TO GOD!!!

Longing for Something More

 Ecclesiastes 1:18
18For with much wisdom comes much sorrow; the more knowledge, the more grief.

King Solomon is noted in the Old Testament as the wisest man. He had more answers to questions then most could fathom. But one thing Solomon learned as he gave accounts of his life and all he tested and did, he understood as the NIV Study Bible says that wisdom without God leads to grief and sorrow. What good is it to obtain every piece of information there is without God who is the true author? What good is it to have everything at your fingertips when there is still no joy in your heart? True joy is from the Lord. To test the theory you need look no further then the news and Internet of people who seem to have everything in the world, but to them, they had nothing and ended their life. Without the Lord in your life, no matter what you obtain, the peace of God is the only thing that sustains. As you go through this life striving for whatever it is "your eyes desire" as Solomon said in chapter 2, know that without God, without understanding His purpose for you, you'll still be longing for something more.
